Tier 1 Visa – Entrepreneur, Exceptional Talent and Investor
What is it?
The Tier 1 visa programme is designed to attract and enable migrants from outside the EU to contribute to the success of the UK’s economy through their investment and/or talent. Replacing the Tier 1 General Visa, there are now three classes of Tier 1 Visa available – the Tier 1 Entrepreneur Visa, the Tier 1 Exceptional Talent Visa, and the Tier 1 Investment Visa.
Tier 1 Entrepreneur Visa
This programme enables migrants from outside the EU to set up or invest in UK businesses. Applicants need to have at least £50,000 available to invest and speak fluent English to apply. Specific eligibility criteria depend on the amount invested – it’s a lot easier to get approved if you have funds of at least £200,000.
This visa enables migrants to stay in the UK for just over 3 years, although it’s possible to extend or apply for indefinite leave to remain when it expires.
Please see the government’s website for further information.
Tier 1 Exceptional Talent Visa
This visa is designed to attract highly skilled migrants from outside the EU to work in in specific UK sectors. Applicants must prove (through endorsement by an appropriate organisation) that they are Exceptional Leaders or have Exceptional Promise one of the following fields:-
- Digital Technology
- The arts
With an Exceptional Talent Visa, migrants can live and work in their field of expertise for up to 5 years and extend for another 5 or apply for indefinite leave to remain. For more information, please visit the relevant government website page.
Tier 1 Investor Visa
If you have over £2,000,000 to invest in the UK, you can apply for this visa category. It enables non-EU migrants to live and work in the UK for 3 years and extend for another 2. For more information please visit the Investor Visa page on the UK government website.
