UK Ancestry Visa
What is it?
The ancestry visa allows you to live and work in the UK for 5 years, after which you can apply for an extension or indefinite leave to remain. Providing you meet the requirement below, you can apply to immigrate to the UK based on your ancestral ties.
You are eligible for a UK ancestry visa if you are:-
- a Commonwealth citizen; and
- aged 17 or over; and
- able to provide proof that one of your grandparents was born in the United Kingdom and that any such grandparent is your blood grandparent or grandparent by reason of an adoption recognised by the laws of the United Kingdom relating to adoption; and
- able to work and intend to take or seek employment in the United Kingdom; and
- able to maintain and accommodate yourself and any dependants adequately without recourse to public funds

UK Ancestry Visa Fees
It costs £496 to apply for a UK ancestry visa yourself. Obviously an agent will charge more for processing your application.
Anyone from outside the EU seeking to live and work in the UK for longer than 6 months now also needs to pay an immigration health surcharge when they apply for their visa.
How to apply for an Ancestry Visa
You need to apply for a UK ancestry visa whilst you are still in your home country. You can apply online from the UK government visa website or use an agency to apply on your behalf. Most people will opt to use an agency as there are often many complexities are involved when applying for visas.
